WHAT NOW?

After reflecting on racism in our past, the next step is to reflect on racism in our present.

It starts by talking about race and why it matters. It starts by talking about our own biases and attitude toward racism. It starts by listening to the experiences of black and brown folks in our community.

Do my black and brown friends consider me an ally? Have I ever talked to them about their experiences with racism? Do I even have black or brown friends to begin with?

It’s been over a century since a community lynched a man. We can’t change the racism that existed in that community. However, we can do something about the racism that still exists in our community today.

"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."

Maya Angelou
